Srinagar, Apr 08: Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid on Friday reiterated its demand to release Mirwaiz Dr Molvi Umar Farooq from his house detention and also regretted that even on the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan authorities did not release him.
In a statement, Anjuman member and Imam Hai of Jamia Masjid said that thousands of people who visit Jamia Masjid more so in Ramzan to listen to the sermon led by the Mirwaiz were eagerly waiting for him, hoping that the authorities would at least release him now.
“But they were greatly disappointed and pained when he was on once again barred by the authorities.”
Anjuman said that as is the centuries old tradition in the valley, throughout this holy month of Ramzan Mirwaiz delivers sermons across the mosques of the valley to educate people on religious values and beliefs.
“It works as a moral force in the society. But all that remains suspended due to his house detention.”
Anjuman said that it once again asks authorities to release Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
