Civilian injured, houses damaged in Pak shelling in Poonch

Rajouri, Apr 12: A civilian was injured while several houses were damaged after some areas in Poonch district came under intense shelling by Pakistan Army,  officials said.

Several villages of Poonch’s Mendhar sub division and Poonch Tehsil came under intense shelling of Pakistan Army on Sunday, leaving a civilian injured and many structures damaged.

Official sources said that on Sunday afternoon, Pakistan Army violated ceasefire in Poonch sector and resorted to firing and shelling in Line of Control (LoC), which include firing with 120 mm mortar.

“The firing and shelling started in noon hours and lasted till evening hours.” the sources said. A civilian identified as Mohammad Showkat, son of Jalal Din, aged 22 years of Qasba village of Poonch got injured and has been hospitalized, officials said.

“Residential house of Said Akbar, son of Chanan Din resident of Mohalla Kalar in village Bandi Chachian got partially damaged,” they said,  adding that the villagers suffered damage of other properties too.

Meanwhile, in Poonch’s Mendhar sub division, cross Line of Control firing and shelling started on Sunday evening. “At around 06:45 PM, LoC firing started in Balakote area of Line of Control,” the officials said, adding that the forward villages along LoC in Balakote got affected with shelling.

“Pakistan is resorting to heavy cross LoC shelling in the area,” the officials said. Similarly, in Rajouri’s Nowshera sector, cross Line of Control firing and shelling started in areas that include Kalsian, Namb Kadali, Ganyah, Khamba villages.

“Firing started in villages of Nowshera at around 07:30 PM and heavy shelling is going on.” said officials—(KNO)
