Jammu admin withdraws directive asking Tehsildars to issue certificate of residence to people residing in Jammu for over a year

Srinagar, October 13: Jammu administration on Wednesday night withdrew the notification directing Tehsildars to issue certificate of residence to people residing in Jammu for more than a year so as to facilitate their entry into the ongoing special summary revision of electoral rolls.

The mover was heavily criticized by the political parties who stated it was “arbitrary” and  akin to ‘physical implementation of adding non-locals in J&K’.

The order issued by Deputy Commissioner Jammu Anvy Lavasa read that some eligible voters are facing hardships in registering as voters due to unavailability of the stipulated documents.

To ensure no voter is left behind, Tehsildars were authorized to issue all those certificate of residence who have been living in Jammu for more than a year.
