Unscheduled daylong power cuts since past 3 days irk Zafran Colony, Srinagar residents

Srinagar, Jun 25: Continuous power shutdown in Zafran Colony and its adjoining areas amid fresh rise in day temperatures has irked the residents with many areas facing acute shortage of drinking water.

PDD officials however, say that it was a temporary shutdown as new wires are being laid to connect newly installed transformers.

The residents of Zafran Colony, Achanambal, Iqbal Sector, Zewan and Zawoora areas expressed their anger against the government and the PDD for resorting to day-long power cuts since past three days. “We get drinking water only when power is available. There has been an acute shortage of drinking water in our area,” said Gulzar Ahmed, a resident of Zafran Colony, Srinagar.

He said that power breaking down has causer huge inconvenience to people especially elderly in the wake of rise in day temperatures after a three day wet spell. Another resident said that LG Manoj Sinha recently said people can complain about unscheduled power cuts. “Why is the power supply being cut off when PDD is laying new lines? Why are people left to suffer for the whole day,” he said, adding since the past three days the Zafran colony and its adjoining areas are witnessing unscheduled day-long cuts under the garb of connecting new transformers.

Elderly people of the area appealed LG Manoj Sinha to intervene and adress the issue stating that there is water shortage in the area as well due to power shutdown.

A PDD official said cut was temporary and power will be restored by 5 pm. “We are laying new wires and connecting new transformers. We request people to bear,” he said.kno
