CRPF man among two died due to COVID 19, death toll reaches 43

First Covid death in paramilitary CRPF in Kashmir since pandemic outbreak

Srinagar, June 08: Jammu and Kashmir Monday witnessed two more Covid deaths as a CRPF man posted in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district died at SKIMS Soura while as a civilian from Khanyar area of Srinagar who had met accident and shifted to SMHS and then to Chest Disease (CD) hospital also breathed his last early morning Monday.

Doctors said both the deceased had tested positive for the deadly virus.

A doctor at SKIMS Soura said that a CRPF man with certain underlying illness was admitted in the hospital on June 4.

“His samples were taken and he had tested positive for the virus. His condition deteriorated today morning and he died in the week hours,” the doctor said.

Assistant Commandant and CRPF spokesman for (Ops) in Kashmir Junaid Khan also confirmed the death of the CRPF man, who was posted with the 90 battalion.

“He was a bit sick and had tested positive for the virus,” he said.

Asked whether the body of the deceased CRPF trooper would be dispatched to his native place, he said higher ups will take a call on the issue.

This is the first Covid death in paramilitary CRPF in Kashmir since the outbreak of pandemic.

A Srinagar man, who had met with an accident and was first admitted at SMHS, wherefrom he was shifted to CD hospital Srinagar after testing positive, also breathed his last today morning.

Dr Saleem Tak, Medical Superintendent CD hospital confirmed that a 35-year-old male died of Covid infection at CD hospital in the wee hours. “He was an accident patient and had transmitted the virus,” he said.

With two fresh deaths, the number of COVID deaths in J&K have reached 41—38 from Kashmir (including a non-local resident and a CRPF trooper), and five from Jammu region—(KNO)
