Shopian: Three militants have been killed in a gunfight that raged between government forces and militants in Imam Sahib area of Shopian on Friday.  The firing has stopped while as searches are going on in the area, sources said.

An official said that earlier two militants were killed in the encounter that started in Adkhara area of Imam Sahib in Shopian and then third was also killed at around 11 am taking the total of slain militants to three.

He added that a joint team of Army’s 34 RR and SoG Shopian launched cordon and search operation in Adkhara Imam Sahib area following credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area. 

The official said that soon after the joint team of forces intensified the search towards the suspected spot, militants opened fire which was retaliated leading to an encounter. 

In exchange of fire, three militants were killed.
