Dozens arrested in multiple raids in Pulwama, Shopian districts

Pulwama: As the last leg of Parliamentary seat Anantnag polls reach closer, the Government forces have intensified their crackdown against the youth in the twin district of Pulwama and Shopian in South Kashmir.

Reports said that at least thirty youth have been detained during nocturnal raids in Tahab locality of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District late on Wednesday night.

Some of the arrested youth have been identified as Ashiq Ganie, Ashiq Ahmed Sheikh, Nisar Sheikh, Naseer Wani, Javid Rather, Javed Mushtaq, Asif Dar, Aadil Dar, Naseer Wani, Abid Dar, Javid Baba, Khurshid Liyakat, Hilal Ahmed Sheikh and Rouf Ahmed Dar.’

Meanwhile, sources said that during nocturnal raids in Chewa Kalan area of Newa in South Kashmir’s Pulwama 15 youth have been picked up, while in Singhu Narbal area of Kakpora many more youth have been arrested,

In Shopian’s DK Pora  12 youth have been arrested and in Vehil area of Shopian, around 6 youth have been arrested.

A police official while confirming the arrests said the arrests have been made in wake up of elections. “Yes we have detained youth from various villages in wake of elections in the twin districts, he said while refusing to comment on the number of youth  arrested.

Shopian and Pulwama will be going to polls in the final leg of polls for the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat on May 6.

Pertinently in last 3 days over 150 youth have been arrested in wake of the elections.
