Hizb asks people of Pulwama, Shopian villages to desist from voting

Shopian: Days ahead of the last phase of three-phase Lok Sabha polls in Shopian and Pulwama district, purported Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit posters have appeared in several villages of the twin districts threatening to ‘kill those who cast vote’.

The posters have been posted at several places on walls and electric polls threatening people of dire consequences who participate in the polling on May 6.

“We have information that Army might force you to cast votes. But everyone should understand that they need to make a choice. Those who cast vote on the polling day in Shopian will be killed,” the poster reads.

The poster has also asked parents to not send their wards to Army Goodwill Schools.

“Our commander Riyaz Naikoo has told you time and again to desist from polls but some people don’t listen.

“The time is over now, we will act against them and put their videos in public,” the poster reads.

The militancy hotbed Shopian and Pulwama will go to polls on May 6. Election Commission for the first time has divided the polls for Anantnag parliamentary constituency in three phases.

Anantnag and Kulgam district have voted and the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian will be going to polls in the last phase.
