Only Kashmir bound LMVs to ply on Srinagar-Leh highway, Mughal road remains shut

Srinagar: Only Kashmir bound Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) were allowed on Tuesday to ply on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh highway while historic 86-km-long Mughal road remained closed though snow clearance operation has almost been completed.

One-way traffic was allowed on the national highway, the only road connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir valley, which was declared open on Sunday after remaining closed for over five months due to accumulation of snow.

Only LMVs will ply from Ladakh region to Kashmir today, a traffic police official said, adding no vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction. However, the vehicles had to cross Minimarg on other side of the Zojila pass from 0700 hrs to 0900 hrs. No vehicle will be allowed after the deadline, he added.

The snow clearance operation has almost been completed on Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, official sources said. However, snow clearance operation continued on Anantnag-Kishtwar road which remained closed since November last year. UNI
