Couple among 5 dead, 11 injured as mini-bus comes under landslide in Doda

Doda: Five persons including a couple died and eleven others were injured after a mini-bus they were travelling in came under a landslide at Piyakul area of Gandoh in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

According to the reports, a mini-bus bearing registration number JK17-4953 was hit by the landslide at Piyakul along Thatri-Kilhotran road.

In the incident, five persons were killed while as eleven others suffered injuries, they said.

The incident occurred at around 3:00 pm when the mini-bus was on way to Gandoh from Thatri, they said.

A police officer said soon after the incident, a joint team of police and other security forces personnel besides local volunteers launched a rescue operation and evacuated all the sixteen persons on board the vehicle to a nearby hospital.

Five among them were declared brought dead by doctors, the officer said.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Doda Dr Mohammad Mushtaq said five among the sixteen passengers were declared brought dead.

“Other injured are being treated and the condition of two more is critical,” he said.

The medical officer identified the deceased as Mansoor Ahmad, son of Saifdin of Kannu Batogra, his wife Gulshan Begum, Shakeela Begum, wife of Ghulam Nabi of Kanu Batogra, Mudasir Ahmad son of Mohd Iqbal Jora, and Kewal Kumar wife of late Surjeet Singh of Sichal Bhalessa.
