Separate PM in J&K demand means no option than scraping 35A, Art 370: Rajnath

Jammu: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said if anybody raises the bogey of separate PM in the state, then there will be no option with the government other than abolishing articles 370 and 35A related to special status to Jammu and Kashmir in the Constitution.

“If someone talks about separate PM for J&K, we will have no option other than abolishing Articles 370 and 35A,” said the Home Minister while addressing an election rally here in bordering Suchetgarh area in support of BJP candidate Jugal Kishore for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency.

He also said that he tried his best to reach out to people of Kashmir, adding, “I was also ready to hold talks with separatists. But now enough is enough.”

Pertinent to mention here that the Article 370 and 35A provides special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the Indian Constitution.

“I am surprised that one, who led Jammu and Kashmir as Chief Minister for a long time, raised the demand of separate PM,” Mr Singh said while addressing an election rally here in bordering Suchetgarh area in support of BJP candidate Jugal Kishore for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency going to poll on April 11.

He however, said that he would like to hear it from Congress and other political parties about their stand and whether they accept that the country should have two Prime Ministers.

“There were talks round the corner in the state about separate PM but I want to say that, if someone repeatedly keep raising this demand, then we will have no option but to abolish Article 370 and 35A,” said Mr Singh.

However, on Kashmir Policy, the Union Minister said, “India is no more a weak nation and the government has a clear policy of zero tolerance for terrorism.”

This, he said has cleared post Pulwama Terror Attack and the reply India gave to the perpetrators of terrorism.

“We have very clear policy. We will not tolerate those who take up arms. We can go to whatever extent required in order giving them a befitting reply,” he said and also added that he tried his best to the reach out to the people of Kashmir to restore peace.

“We withdrew all cases against first time stone-pelters and gave them a chance. Even agreed to hold talks with separatists, but now enough is enough,” he added.

He also counted achievements of the PM Narendra Modi headed government since 2014 and said, “India is on the path of growth and we will soon be a notable country across the globe and will soon figure in top three nations.”

“Unfortunately in Jammu and Kashmir some leaders are pulling our legs,” the Home Minister said and added that after Governor’s Rule in Jammu and Kashmir the situation has improved a lot and the Central Government was able to implement many welfare schemes for the people. (UNI)
