New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah and several Union Ministers on Sunday decided to take the “MainBhiChowkidar” campaign to the next level as most of them changed the Twitter handle names by prefixing the word ‘Chowkidar’.
This is seen as a major plunge by the saffron party leaders to dismiss Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s attack against the Prime Minister on the Rafale aircraft deal row and take the steam out of such criticism.
“Kaho dilse (Let us speak from our heart, let us have ‘Chowkidar’ Narendra Modi as PM again,” tweeted BJP chief Amit Shah.
Other leaders to have changed their Twitter handle names include J P Nadda, Piyush Goyal, Suresh Prabhu and Dharmendra Pradhan.
“Anyone who is doing his/her bit in getting India free of dirt, corruption and social-evils is a chowkidar”,” says Commerce Minister Prabhu.
These came a day after PM Modi on Saturday unveiled a unique campaign ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ video trying to take potshots at Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his personal attack against him.
“Your Chowkidar (custodian) is standing firm & serving the nation. But, I am not alone,” the Prime Minister has tweeted releasing the video on his Twitter handle.
The counter ‘Chowkidar Chor hai’ strategy of BJP only brings back the memories of 2014 Lok Sabha polls when the saffron party had made optimum use of Congress Leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s “chaiwallah” jibe on Mr Modi, who was then the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.
