Rajnath’s statement in LS ends speculations that Assembly polls will be held after general elections: Omar

Srinagar: Reacting to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement that the centre was ready to hold Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah said this should put to rest the motivated speculation that elections in the state will happen only after the general elections.

“An important assurance on the floor of the house in the Lok Sabha. This should put to rest the motivated speculation that elections in the state will happen only after the general elections,” Mr Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

Mr Singh on Friday, while replying to a discussion on the resolution on a presidential proclamation about imposition of President’s Rule in the state, said that the government was ready to hold Assembly polls in J&K. The minister also rejected claims of some Opposition parties that the BJP was propping up a regional party to form government in the state.
