Advisor to Guv Kumar reviews security situation in Kashmir

 Srinagar: Advisor to the Governor, Vijay Kumar, on Tuesday reviewed the internal security situation in Kashmir valley, where militant attacks have witnessed upward spiral during the last over one week.

The high level meeting holds significance as it comes at a time when reports of militant snipers being active in the valley has emerged as a new source of worry for security agencies.

The meeting also comes days before Panchayat polls in the valley, where killing of political activities and workers has witnessed an increase since Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections held earlier this month.

A police official said that Advisor Kumar chaired a security review meeting at Police Headquarters (PHQ) Srinagar on Tuesday.

“The meeting was attended by Director General of Police (DGP), J&K, Dilbag Singh, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, SP Pani and senior officers of Police CRPF and SSB,” he said.

Three security forces jawans were killed in while two others were injured in separate suspected sniper attacks in the valley.
