After NC, PDP announces boycott of polls, Cong discuss issue with Guv

Srinagar: After the National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced to boycott Local Urban Bodies (UBL) and Panchayat polls, a delegation of Congress discuss the issue with Governor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday.

An official spokesman said here a delegation of Congress led by Ghulam Ahmad Mir, President of PCC, met Governor Malik at the Raj Bhavan here.

The delegation members discussed with Governor about their concerns relating to the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies polls and shared their views on various aspects of these elections.

The members apprised Governor about various development needs of their respective areas and overall equitable development of all the three regions of the state.

The Governor emphasised the importance of empowerment of people through establishment of local self-governing institutions which will strengthen democratic framework at the grass root level and ensure direct participation of people in the development programmes of their villages and towns.
