Jammu: The much awaited smart fence pilot project is ready to take off while Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to inaugurate it on September 17 along International Border (IB) in Jammu sector.

“BSF has constructed three pilot projects of smart fencing along the IB with Pakistan in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts and they will be inaugurated by the Union Home Minister likely on September 17,” official sources said here on Saturday.

“The trial of pilot projects of smart fence have been successful”, they said.

An official however, said that smart fencing on pilot project basis at three places along the IB has been constructed using latest techniques and gadgetry.

“The pilot project is also proposed to be extended along 198-kms IB from Lakhanpur to Akhnoor once proved successful,” they asserted.
