Srinagar, July 30: The Government officials of Jammu and Kashmir have been advised to commemorate the occasion by updating their social media display pictures (DPs) with selfies showcasing the Indian flag, soil, and an earthen lamp (Jhanda, Mitti, and Diya).
Following a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, Arun Kumar Mehta, various government departments have swung into action to ensure a seamless and momentous event on August 15.
The main Independence Day function as per the circular, a copy of which lies with the Kashmir News Service(KNS), will be held at two iconic locations: Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Sonawar, Srinagar, and Maulana Azad Stadium at Jammu. Both venues are being meticulously prepared to welcome citizens and dignitaries from across the Union territory.
Security has been of paramount concern, and the ADGP (Security) Jammu/Kashmir, along with the Inspector General (Traffic), are working collaboratively to implement foolproof security arrangements and devise efficient route and parking plans for the main events.
To foster a sense of patriotism and unity, all government employees have been urged not to avail leave on Independence Day, except under exceptional circumstances. The administration expects full participation from its employees in the festivities.
In an unprecedented move, all Government buildings, offices, schools, colleges, universities, urban local bodies, panchayats, blocks, tehsils, and patwar khanas will be adorned with brilliant lights and proudly hoist the National Flag. Videos of the flag-hoisting ceremonies will be shared with respective Divisional Commissioners to promote the spirit of the occasion.
The Housing & Urban Development Department and the Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj have taken it upon themselves to ensure the participation of public representatives from ULBs, DDCs, BDCs, and Panchayats in the celebrations, instilling a sense of inclusion and shared responsibility.
To reinforce the message of “Meri Mitti Mera Desh,” all government officers and the general public have been encouraged to hoist the tricolor over their houses, and selfies with the Jhanda, Mitti, and Diya will grace their social media handles as part of the campaign.
Across all districts in the Union territory, special ceremonies will be held, including the hoisting of the National Flag and the installation of Shila Phalakam on Amrit Sarovars, symbolizing the essence of freedom.
Education, culture, and sports will take center stage in this year’s celebrations. Special events, essay competitions, debates, and prabhat pheris will be organized in schools, colleges, and universities, fostering a sense of national pride among the youth.
In his directive, the Chief Secretary emphasized that Independence Day speeches should highlight the government’s initiatives under digital J&K, Corruption-free J&K, Swacchhta, Nasha Mukht Bharat, completed projects, Jan Bhagidari, Aap ki Zameen Aap ki Nigrani, among others.
Acknowledging the contributions of various departments and organizations, innovations at different levels, from Panchayat to the Union territory, will be recognized and felicitated suitably.
Anticipating weather uncertainties, arrangements are being made in advance to ensure smooth functioning in case of rains, particularly in Srinagar.
On the hospitality front, students and participants will be treated to refreshments at both venues, Jammu and Srinagar. Cultural events will grace the celebrations, and the Culture Department is leaving no stone unturned to ensure vibrant performances and appropriate outfits for the artists.
Traffic police are working on parking arrangements at all venues, and timely traffic advisories will be issued for public convenience. Proper protocol will be followed concerning parking and dignitaries’ arrival and departure at the venues.
Accorded due protocol, dignitaries attending the functions will have designated seating arrangements based on the Warrant of Precedence.
The government aims to highlight its achievements, and all departments will inaugurate projects executed over the past year, laying the foundation for future developments.
Prominent buildings and landmarks across locations will be illuminated, showcasing the unity and pride of the Union territory.
Departments have been encouraged to create short videos, highlighting their achievements, which will be widely publicized by the Information Department.
Even after the main functions at Srinagar and Jammu, Independence Day celebrations will continue at Divisional Headquarters, Directorates, PSUs, and Corporations.
As part of the Swacchta Pakhwadas, departments, corporations will undertake two-week-long cleanliness drives.
With the atmosphere buzzing with enthusiasm, the government calls upon every department to plan Independence Day celebrations with fervor, making it a memorable occasion for all.
Furthermore, officers of the Central Government posted in Jammu and Kashmir are expected to actively participate in the celebrations, enhancing the spirit of national unity.(KNS)
