Srinagar, May 20: Razdan top in Gurez valley has received fresh snowfall while the rains lashed plains as well as the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, bringing down the temperature further across the Union Territory.

However, the Meteorological department here has predicted more rains/snow, informing that a western disturbance is affecting Jammu and Kashmir in between May 22-23.

Reports said that several areas across Jammu and Kashmir including Srinagar, the summer capital of the Union Territory, have received moderate rainfall.

Razdan top in Gurez valley has received fresh snowfall today.

Deputy Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad said that a western disturbance is affecting Jammu and Kashmir in between May 22-23 during which light to moderate rain could occur while some higher reaches may also experience fresh snowfall.

“The wet spell as predicted already would likely continue till tomorrow (May 21) following which another WD would affect J&K,” he said.

“People need to take appropriate precautions and avoid visiting the places where the gusty winds can prove fatal. A few days back, the tourists were rescued from Dal Lake when the gusty winds started and thus when people observe changes in the weather conditions, they should not visit such places,” he said.

Pertinently, intermittent light rains continued from the last two days in Kashmir breaking the prevailing heat wave conditions across Jammu and Kashmir.
