‘Wrongfully Confining Woman in North Kashmir’: Patwari Attached, Probe Ordered Against Two Other

Srinagar, May 18: In the wake of receipt of a complaint against Patwari Chandigam Halqa (B) and his two subordinates in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Lobal/Sogam attached the Patwari and ordered a probe against the two other.

As per an order issued by the SDM, a complaint was registered by Abdul Qayoom Khan, son of Sher Khan, a resident of Chandigam Lolab against the accused Patwari Halqa, Bashir Ahmad Shiekh, Lumberdar, Javid Ahmad and an employee Zahoor Ahmad son of Ghulam Rasool Dar, both residents of Chandigam Lolab.

The order further reads, “In the pursuit of complaint, Bashir Ahmad Shiekh Patwari Halqa Chandigam is hereby attached with TO Sogam till the outcome of enquiry initiated regarding the instant complaint against the official. Meanwhile GQ Sogam Abdul Hamid Mir is directed to look after the work of Patwar Halqa Chandigam till further orders.”

Regarding the matter, which necessitated the official to take action the trio accused, a complaint was reportedly received at Police Station Sogam, wherein the complainant accused the trio for “wrongfully confining and resorting to acts intended to outrage the modesty of his wife”.

Later, a case vide FIR number 38/2022, under relevant sections of IPC was registered against the trio for further action into the matter.
