Indian student killed in Ukraine shelling: MEA

Srinagar: The Ministry of external affairs has said that an Indian student lost his life during shelling in Kharkiv region of Ukraine.

“With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We convey our deepest condolences to the family,” spokesperson for the ministry said.

Spokesman also said that the foreign Secretary was calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate Indian demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones.

“Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine,’ the spokesman said.

 

 

According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science, there are around 18,095 Indian students in the country

Russia and Ukraine are locked in a conflict since past six days.  Russian military has entered the country and is engaged in battle with Ukrainian military to get hold of Capital Kiev.
