Militant killed in brief shootout in Baramulla

Baramulla, Oct 28: The Inspector general of police Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar on Thursday said that a hybrid local militant was killed in a brief shootout in Cherdari village of North Kashmir’s district Baramulla. 

IGP said that the local militant identifed as Javid Ahmed Wani, who was involved in the killing of two labourers from Bihar in Kulgam on 20 October, was killed in the brief shootout.

He said that he fired on army and police, however, due to their alertness they retaliated and the militant was killed on the spot.

“A pistol, one loaded magazine and a grenade has been recovered from his possession,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Kashmir zone police while quoting IGP on its official Twitter handle said that the militant was on mission to target one shopkeeper in Baramulla.

In another Tweet police said the killed militant was a hybrid type and was assisted by another militant Gulzar, who was killed on October 20.

“Killed (militant) is hybrid type, identified as Javed Ah Wani of #Kulgam district and he has assisted terrorist Gulzar (who was killed on 20th Oct) in #killing of 2 labourers from #Bihar in #Wanpoh. He was on mission to target one shopkeeper in #Baramulla: IGP Kashmir,” the police Tweeted.
