Police Official Alleged of Abusive Behaviour Suspended Over Non-Compliance of COVID-19 Protocol

Srinagar, Sep 26: Senior Superintendent of Police Awantipora has suspended and simultaneously ordered a departmental enquiry against a police official manning a naka in Awantipora in Pulwama district over non-compliance of Covid-19 protocol, following a bike-borne duo alleged the latter of resorting to abusive behavior.

As per an official in the knowhow of things saod that the bike-borne youth have maintained that they were asked to make Red Cross donation by a police team at a naka in Shaar Shaali area to which they refused saying that they had made the donation previous Sunday. The official manning the naka, they as per the official said, then asked them to pay fine for not wearing helmet. And while alighting from the bike, the official on duty allegedly abused them to which the bike-borne duo objected, leading to an exchange of words.

The duo have recorded a video clip of the incident and shared it on social-media, wherein the official on duty can be himself seen without mask, the official said.

Taking a strong notice of the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Awantipora Mohammad Yousaf has immediately suspended the official for ‘not following Covid-19 protocol.’

“The SDPO Pampore has further been directed to conduct an enquiry following which action as warranted would follow as the alleged police was himself not following COVID protocol”, the official added. gns
