Mehbooba mufti denounces FIR against Geelani’s family

Srinagar Sep 06:  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday flayed the central government for the filing of an FIR over the draping of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s body in a Pakistani flag and the alleged raising of “anti-national” slogans after his death.

Addressing the meeting at party headquarters in Srinagar, Mufti Accused centre of “ruthlessness” for booking the family members of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani under various provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Mufti said,‘’In a democratic country, Family at least deserve to fulfill the last will of the deceased”.

On Saturday, the Budgam police registered the FIR against family members of the deceased leader under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code, taking cognizance of a viral video clip that purportedly showed Geelani’s body draped in a Pakistani flag.
