Militant killed in nocturnal encounter in Budgam, another escaped, then arrested: Police

Srinagar, August 07:  A militant has been killed in a Pre-dawn gunfight in Manchowa area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday.

Officials sources told that during firefight one militant has been killed so far. However identity of the slain militant couldn’t be established as of now.

As per the sources the slain militant is believed to be newly recruited, one AK-47 and a pistol has been recovered from his possession, they said.

Earlier, Reports said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Monchuwa.

As the joint team of forces encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.

A militant, who “escaped” amid gunfight at Mochwa in Budgam district has been arrested from Khrew area in outskirts of Srinagar, police said.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said the “second militant who escaped from encounter site, after following a lead, has been arrested in Khrew.”

“A pistol and a grenade has been recovered from his possession. Truck driver also arrested,” he said as per a tweet by the police.

Sources said that the arrested militant is from Khrew area.

Earlier, one militant was killed in the gunfight in Mochwa area in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district early on Saturday.

The gunfight, as per police, had ensued after joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area. gns
