Crucial All-Party Meeting chaired by PM on J&K in Delhi begins

Srinagar, June 24: The crucial all-party meeting on Jammu and Kashmir, to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is going to be held today later in the day even as the J&K leaders invited to the meeting arrived in Delhi on Wednesday.

Sources said that the meeting is scheduled at 3 pm at PM Modi’s residence, which is seen as first major outreach by the central government since the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of J&K into two Union Territories.

The meeting is aimed at setting on course the political process in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been under President’s Rule since 2018 when the ruling coalition collapsed after the BJP snapped ties with then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

While several J&K leaders including Mehbooba Mufti, who will attend the meeting, stressed that they would talk about the restoration of special status and statehood, which was scrapped on August 05, 2019, it is still unclear what is the agenda of the meeting.

Fourteen leaders from eight political parties, including NC president Farooq Abdullah, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, PC chief Sajad Lone have been invited to the meeting. kns
