Address me simply as ‘Sir’ not ‘your honor: Judicial Magistrate to lawyers

Baramulla, May 2: Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Boniyar here in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has issued an order asking lawyers not to address him as ‘your lordship’ or ‘your honor’ but simply say ‘Sir’ while addressing him in the court of law.

The Judge while describing the words like ‘your lordship’ ‘my lord’ or ‘your honor’ of divine nature said these words belong to ‘Lord’ (Almighty) only.

“It is hereby for the information of all lawyers that they may not address me as, “Your Lordship”, “My Lord” or “Your Honor”, as such words are of divine nature and belong to the Lord only. Therefore, lawyers are directed to rather use the word “Sir” in place of such words. This order may be strictly followed,” read the order issued by Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Boniyar Shahber Ayaz. knt
