Weatherman predicts light rain, thunderstorm in J&K till May 4

Srinagar, April 30: World famous health resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam received light rains even as mercury hovered above normal in most parts of Kashmir Valley, officials said on Friday.  

A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 11.4°C against 11.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was 2.1°C above normal for this time of the season in the summer capital of J&K, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 8.2°C against previous night’s 8.6°C and it was above normal by 0.4°C in the gateway town of Kashmir, the official said.

Mercury settled at 4.2°C against 5.7°C on the previous night in Pahalgam. The temperature was below normal by 0.2°C during this time of the season in the famous tourist resort in South Kashmir which also received 0.3mm of rain during the 24 hours till 0830 hours today, he said.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 8.3°C against normal of 8.1°C and last night’s 8.2°C, the official said.

Kupwara recorded a low of 8.0°C against 8.6°C on the previous night which was above normal by 0.2°C for this time of the season in north Kashmir district, the official said.

Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, recorded a low of 6.0°C against 6.4°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 1.8°C above normal in the resort which received 0.2mm of rain in the 24 hours, the official added.

The weatherman has forecast very light rain or thunderstorm in Jammu and Kashmir till May 4 and scattered rain on May 5 and 6.
