Uri (Baramulla), Nov 14: Around two dozen residential houses have received substantial damage in Uri in the aftermath of cross-border shelling between India and Pakistan armies on Friday last.

Reports said that the cross-border shelling caused severe damage to residential houses in Kamalkote, Hajipeer and Rampore sectors in Uri even as claiming at least six lives including four civilians and two forces personal.

The residential houses damaged include that in Kamalkote, Bandi Sarai, Sultan Daki, Balkote, Churanda, Samali Boniyar, Mayan Boniyar, Hil Pathar Boniyar, reports said.

Houses of Abdul Gani Sheikh and his son Parvaiz Ahmad in Balkote village in Hajipeer sector were razed to rubble even as the other material completely damaged, forcing the families to shift from thr area, reports said.

Meanwhile in Kamalkote village, a mortor shell landed on house of one Sageer Hussain Shah which, as per reports, still lies unexploded in vicinity of the house.

The residents in the meantime have expressed apprehensions that there may be more of unexploded ammunition lying in and around the area.

When contacted SDM Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik said that as per initial figures at least two dozen residential houses have got damaged including thirteen of them severally, in Uri sector alone.

“We have directed separate teams of Revenue and Police department to visit and ascertain the damage caused in the affected areas”, Malik said.

“We also have intimated BDS squads of army to dispose off the live shells on priority basis, if any found anywhere in the area”, Malik added.

Pertinent to mention here that five soldiers besides four civilians were killed even as seventeen others sustaining injuries in a major face-off between India and Pakistan armies along multiple sectors falling on Line of Control. (GNS)
