Two militants killed during gunfight with government forces in Handwara

Srinagar, Aug 19: Two militants have been killed during a gunfight with government forces at Ganipora Kralgund area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Official sources said that two militant have been killed in Intial exchange of firing. He said the identity of the militant is yet to be ascertained.

They further said that gunfight erupted in an orchard, combing operation continues.

Earlier, a joint team Police, army’s 32 RR and CRPF launched a joint cordon-and-search operation in the area, there was firing upon the team from militants hiding in the area.

The fire was retaliated, triggering of an encounter, they added.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar tweeted that “Handwara encounter update: LeT commander Naseer-u-Din Lone, who was involved in the killing of three CRPF jawans at Sopore on May 4 this year, got killed.” This was the second encounter in the day. Earlier, one unidentified militant was killed in an encounter South Kashmir’s Shopian district

Pertinently this is the second encounter of the day.(GNS)
