17 persons die due to Covid19 since Monday, death toll reaches 412

Srinagar, Aug 3: Jammu and Kashmir has reported 17 deaths since Monday due to covid-19, taking the fatality count due to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir to 412.

Official sources said that six among those who lost their lives belonged to Srinagar, two each to Anantnag and Jammu besides one each to Ganderbal and Baramulla and Pulwama.

Three of the deaths were reported from SKIMS Soura and include 85-year-old man from Safakadal Srinagar, 62-year-old from Nawa Bazar Srinagar and a 75-year-old from Pulwama district.

At SMHS hospital, a 68-year-old from downtown Srinagar died this evening. “He was suffering from Pneumonia and was put on ventilator,” a doctor at the hospital said.

Regarding two deaths at Jammu, they said, one of them, a 60-year-old man from Simbal Morh in Miran Sahib area of Jammu tested positive last evening, nearly 24 hours after his death in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. The other, they said, was 82- year-old woman from R S Pura area who was admitted to the hospital on July 28.
Meanwhile, two persons from Anantnag died due to virus and included a 65-year-old from SK colony area of the south Kashmir district.

Regarding the sexagenarian from SK Colony, they said, she was diabetic, hypertensive and had bilateral pneumonia. She passed away at SMHS hospital here, they added.

Regarding the victim from Baramulla, they said a 65-year-old man was from New Colony Sopore who died at Sub District hospital Sopore in the north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The elderly had tested positive after his rapid antigen test was done at Bandipora on July 31, they said.

“The man was shifted to SDH Sopore with spO2 below 70. He was gasping and breathed his last,” they said, adding, “ The patient was having co-morbidities with Hypertension and type 2 diabetes.” Also a patient from Rawalpora Srinagar died due to the virus in a hospital here, officials said.

On Tuesday morning, three more deaths due to covid-19 were reported.

Officials said that two among the deaths—a 65-year-old woman from Budgam and a 75-year-old man from Srinagar’s Khaniyar area— were reported at CD hospital, one of the exclusive facilities for the management of the covid-19 patients in Kashmir Valley. Also, a 65-year-old man from Budgam died at SKIMS Soura, they said.

Regarding the woman from Budgam, they said, she was shifted from SMHS hospital to CD hospital on August 3 with underlying ailments like hypertension diabetes and “severe pneumonia with respiratory failure”.

“She was shifted to ICU and put to ventilator. However at 4 a.m. today, the woman suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and died,” a senior doctor at the CD hospital said .

Regarding other death, the doctor said that besides being hypertensive, the man was suffering from chronic kidney disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) severe pneumonia.

The man developed sudden cardiac arrest at 1:45 a.m. and was declared dead subsequently, the doctor added.
Meanwhile, regarding the elderly man from Budgam, officials told GNS that he was having underlying ailments and died at the tertiary care hospital early today.

With these three deaths, the fatality count due to the virus has risen to 411 in J&K—381 in Kashmir and 30 in Jammu.
Srinagar district with 136 deaths tops the list followed by Baramulla (72), Budgam (30), Kulgam (29), Anantnag (26), Shopian (23), Pulwama (23), Kupwara (21), Jammu (21), Bandipora (14), Ganderbal (7), two each in Rajouri and Doda and one each in Ramban, Samba, Poonch, Udhampur, and Kathua. (GNS)
