Srinagar, July 29: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti has said that Pakistan conferred highest civilian award to Syed Ali Geelani while as Government of India (GOI) was discrediting and demolishing the mainstream leadership in Jammu and Kashmir.

“As Pakistan intends to confer highest civilian award on Geelani Sb, GOI’s busy discrediting & demolishing mainstream leadership in J&K that fought for idea of India since 70 years. Concerted effort to wipe out any mainstream voice of dissent is plain spiteful,” Mehbooba wrote on her twitter handle.

Syed Ali Geelani will be awarded Pakistan’s highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Pakistan, media reported.

According to media reports, the Pakistani senate passed unanimous resolution to award Geelani the country’s highest civilian award.

The resolution has also proposed to name an engineering university after the name of ailing Kashmiri Hurriyat leader.

The reports stated that the resolution were moved by Jamaat-i-Islami senator Mustaq Ahmad which was passed unanimously in one voice by the senators.
