110 year old Kashmiri Pandit dies in South Kashmir Muslims take care of last rites

Shopian, July 23: A 110 year old Kashmiri Pandit died in his home here in Zainapora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Local sources said  that Pandit Kanth Ram son of Anant Ram was ill from past many days and today he passed away at his Zainapora home.

His death was widely mourned by local Muslims as well as Pandit community.

“We used to visit each other families and had a good chemistry. He was my friend and a noble soul. We are really saddened over his death,” Abdul Gafar, a local resident said.

“This is the lone Pandit family in the village. Pandit Kanth Ram and his family share a strong bond with the Muslims. We have lost a noble soul today,” he added.

After the news spread in the village, the local Muslims visited the family and expressed condolences with them. Many youth made arrangements in performing his last rites. They also ferried firewood for helping the family to cremate the deceased.

The deceased has left behind his lone son Ramesh Kumar, a doctor by profession and 4 daughters, who are all settled. His doctor son is running a clinic in the Shopian village, three daughter are in Jammu while one in Srinagar. (KNT)
