One more militant killed in Shopian encounter, toll 3

Srinagar: One more militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter between militants and government forces in Melhura area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district.

According to the police, the operation continued through the night. While the police have killed the third militant, however, the searches are underway in the area.

The encounter broke out yesterday and was prolonged due to darkness.

Two militants were killed yesterday. “One more militant were killed in gunfight,” police spokesman said adding the searches are going on”.

The army Major was injured at the gunfight site identified as Major Capray of 55RR. He was subsequently shifted to army hospital.

Meanwhile two civilians were also injured among them, a woman Shahnaza Bano wife of Farooq Ahmad Koka suffered bullet and was shifted to a nearby hospital wherefrom she was referred to SMHS hospital Srinagar.

Another civilian Asif Ahmad Reshi son of Nissar Reshi of Watchi according to reports suffered pellet wounds after police and paramilitary forces chased a group of youth near the encounter site. All the injured have been moved to different hospitals.
