Srinagar: Four smugglers were arrested and illicit timber was seized by police in Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, a police spokesman said on Friday.

He said acting on a tip-off, a police party raided forest area of Muqam Shalkot Rafiabad in Sopore in Baramulla.

During the raid, police arrested four smugglers identified as Abdul Majeed Najar, Irshad Ahmad, Nisar Ahmad Najar Najar, all local residents and Bilal Ahmad Lone resident of Muqam Shalkot, he said.

He said illicit timber has also been recovered.

A case FIR No. 56/2019 under relevant sections was registered and investigation initiated in the matter, he said.
