For weeks now, several villages in Mendhar reel under darkness 

Poonch: Unmoved by the plight of people amid soaring temperatures, Power Development Department has failed to restore power supply to at least seven villages in Mendhar of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

Reports said that at least seven villages which include; Sagra, Salwah, Gohlad, Chajjla, Salani, Ari and Dharati are reeling under severe darkness while the department is showing ‘no concern’.

Locals said that they are facing a lot of difficulties amid the soaring temperatures. “We are facing a lot of difficulties in such temperatures, they said while adding that the worst sufferers have been the students whose study has got badly hit in the absence of electricity.”

Alleging that the Power Development Department of poor response the villagers said that, the concerned department has shown no concern despite apprised on several occasions. “We approached the department on several occasions but they are showing no concern towards our plight,” they said.

While urging the Governor-led administration to setup a repairing workshop at sub-division Mendhar, the locals said that “the defunct transformers of the respective villages were lying at a workshop in sub-division Surankote for several weeks now for want of repairment.

Meanwhile, a senior PDP leader Adv. Nadeem Rafiq Hussain Khan has appealed Chief Engineer PDD Jammu to look into the matter to mitigate the sufferings of people. (GNS)
