Court grants bail to senior journalist

Srinagar: Srinagar court has granted bail to the senior journalist, Ghulam Jeelani Qadri, in connection with the case filed 30 years ago.

Qadri was arrested during the wee hours of Thursday after a Police party raided the house of Qadri (62), who is printer and publisher of one of the oldest Urdu newspaper ‘Daily Aafaq’, published from Srinagar.

After granting him bail, the court directed the police to be present on the next hearing to explain as to how Qadri was given passport twice, if he was absconding.

The court has also asked police to explain as to how many times they have raided the residence of Qadri if he was absconding.

Qadri was arrested in connection with a case registered against him and some other journalists in early 90s when he was running now defunct local news agency JAK (Jammu and Kashmir) News.
