Drug menace: Police books 4 drug peddlers under PSA in Kupwara

Srinagar: Acting tough against drug menace, police authorities have booked four drug peddlers under Public Safety Act (PSA) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday.

A senior police officer while divulging the details said that four persons namely Abdul Majeed Munshi (43) of Munshi Mohalla Gulgam, Ghulam Rasool War (36)  of Gonipora, Hyhama, Mohammad Hussain Lone (35) of Mirnag Hyhama and Shabir Ahmad Mir (29) of Dardpora, Kralpora were arrested in separate raids several days back and were booked under the stringent law on Friday. Several cases related to narcotic drugs were registered against them in recent past, he said.

He said four separate cases stands registered against Abdul Majeed Munshi and include FIR Nos—138/2019 under section 376 RPC in police station Safakadal, 02/2011 under section 489 B, C in police station Sogam, 188/2014 under section 447, 427 RPC in police station Kupwara and 309/2018 under section 8/20 NDPS Act in police station Kupwara, the officer said.

Similarly, he said three separate cases stand registered against Ghulam Rasool War and include FIR no. 84/2010 under section 8/20 NDPS Act in police station Batote, 130/2016 under section 8/20 NDPS Act in police station Kupwara and 29/2017 under section 8/22 NDPS in police station Budgam.

Three separate FIRs were registered against Mohammad Hussain Lone in police station Kupwara which include 141/2015 under section 8/20 NDPS Act, 32/2017 under section 8/20 NDPS Act and 24/2019 under section 8/20 NDPS, he said.

Similarly, a case under an FIR number 105/2012 under section 8/20 NDPS act was registered against Shabir Ahmad Mir in police station Kralpora, he said.

All the four persons were booked under J&K Prevention of illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance act 1988, by the orders of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the officer said.

He said that Munshi has been booked vide Government Order Number DIVCOM-K/77/2019, War under DIVCOM-K/79/2019, Lone under DIVCOM-K/78/2019 and Mir under DIVCOM-K/80/2019.

While Munshi, Lone and Mir were shifted to district jail Baramulla, War was taken to central jail Srinagar for lodgment, he added. (GNS)
