Srinagar: Two bodies have been recovered from the encounter site in Shopian after gunfight broke out between militants and government forces at Dragad Sugan area of the district on Friday.

A senior police officer said that after a brief exchange of firing with militants two bodies along with as many weapons have been retrieved from the spot.

However the identity of the slain is yet to be ascertained, he said.

Earlier a joint team army’s 44 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search at Dragad Sugan area during predawn hours today.

As such the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot in the orchards, the hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering a gunfight.
