Shopian: Predawn gunfight ensued between militants and government forces in Sitapora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.

Reports said that a joint team of forces including army’s 34RR and Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off Sitapora after inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.

As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter.

A senior Police official confirmed that some exchange of firing has taken place between militants and government forces.
