Kashmir highway shuts for 3rd consecutive day, 8000 vehicles stranded

Srinagar: Around 8000 vehicles are stranded at various places on the Srinagar-Jammu highway which remains closed for the vehicular traffic for the third consecutive day on Saturday due to landslides and shooting stones.

Official sources said that the men and machinery are working to clear the road of debris so that the stranded vehicles reach their destinations.

Although the traffic was restored late Friday evening, but after fresh landslides near Digdole in Ramban it was again closed for traffic.

The official said that the landslides continued on Saturday as well therefore hampering the clearance process.

He said that around 3000 vehicles were stranded on the highway till Friday but the number has gone up to 8000.

The MeT department has predicted rains for the next three days in the state which will likely trigger more landslides and shooting stones on the road.
