Army officer among three soldiers, porter, Govt teacher injured in Poonch, Rajouri shelling

Poonch/ Rajouri: Three soldiers including an army officer, a porter and a government school teacher were injured due to shelling by Pakistan in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

An army officer said that at about 1100 hours today, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with artillery and firing with small arms along LoC in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch and in Keri sector of Rajouri.

An army officer of Colonel rank along with two army soldiers suffered injuries in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch, he said, adding that an army porter Mohammad Marouf was injured at Jhallas village of Rajouri.

Indian army responded strongly, the officer said.

All the injured were hospitalized and are said to be stable, the officer added.

Meanwhile, a government school teacher namely Mushtaq Hussain son of Mohd Din of Digwar Maldyallian was injured after a shell fired by Pakistan landed in their village. Hussain was taken to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, authorities have ordered closure of educational institutions in Keri sector tomorrow.

“As a precautionary measure and keeping in view the safety of students, all the Government and Private Schools up to 10+2 level within 0-5 Km distance from the LoC in Keri sector(Education Zone Doongi) of District Rajouri shall remain closed tomorrow on 06/05/2019,” said an order by Deputy Commissioner Rajouri.
