Shopian: Two militants have been killed in the ongoing gunfight between government forces and militants in Imam Sahib area of Shopian Friday morning.

Sources said that two militants were killed in the gunfight that raged since early morning in Adkhara village. The identification of the two militants is being ascertained.

The gunfight ensued after a joint team of government forces including Army’s 34 RR and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in the village following inputs about the presence of militants. 

Sources said soon after the searches were intensified, militants opened fire on the search party which was retaliated leading to a gunfight. 

In exchange of fire,  two militants were killed, whose identification is being ascertained, they said.
