Only one-way traffic allowed on Kashmir highway

Srinagar: Despite major improvement in the weather, only one-way traffic will continue on Kashmir highway till further orders, traffic police officials said.

On Monday traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar and no vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction, the officials said.

They said Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will have to cross Jakheni, Udhampur, between 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs. Thereafter, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will be allowed from Udhampur, they said. 

However, people are requested to undertake journey on the highway after confirming status of road from Traffic Control Units (TCUs) at Srinagar, Ramban and Jammu, officials said warned that no vehicle will be allowed during night.

Traffic on the Kashmir highway was disrupted for over a month during the past three months which had resulted in loss of over Rs 3,300 crore to traders in the valley.
