Srinagar: Police Saturday registered a formal case against the husband of a Councillor who assaulted an SMC official in broad day light in Hyderpora area of Srinagar city.

The colleagues of the Sanitary Inspector of Ward Number 13 Shabir Ahmed Akhoon said that one Sameer Ahmed who happens to be the husband of the Councillor Nayeema Banoo is meddling into the affairs of the Corporation.

“Sameer Ahmed on the behest of his wife has been forcing us to sign the Swach Bharat Abhiyan forms without any verification. His sole intention is to give undue advantage and favours to his relatives and friends,” they said

While divulging information about the incident, the colleagues of victim official said that on Saturday afternoon Sameer Ahmed hit the head of Sanitary Inspector Shabir Ahmed Akhoon with a brick in broad daylight at Hyderpora. “The fault of the victim was that he refused to entertain the assailant. Blood oozed out from his head and he received 4 stitches. We were forced to approach police against this goon,” they said.

The accused is a Government employee working in Roads and Buildings Department.

A police official confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against the accused.
