Mirwaiz terms assault on Kashmiri students in Chattisgarh ‘very disturbing’

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday condemned the assault on Kashmiri students by goons in the Chhattisgarh.

He termed it “very disturbing” and said that the Kashmiri students continuously become a target of hate elements. He said that safety of these students is the duty of the state.

At least 32 students undergoing engineering training through central governments Skill Development and Empowerment Himayat scheme are feeling unsafe and have pleaded early return to home after they were “assaulted” by the students from Maharashtra and Bihar states in the hostel building of Disha Institute of Management and Engineering Technology at Chattisgarh.

The injured students were identified as Faisal, Naveed, Mohsin, and Zahid.

The Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahid Iqbal Choudhary Thursday said that the matter regarding the alleged assault on Kashmiri students has been taken up with District Magistrate and SSP Raipur.

He said that the matter is being enquired and the details of the matter will be shared.

Shahid tweeted: “Matter regarding alleged assault on students has been taken up with District Magistrate and SSP Raipur. Matter being enquired. Further details / outcome will be shared. (SIC).”
