Pulwama town in south Kashmir shuts for 5th day against ‘Sirnoo massacre’

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in south Kashmir’s Pulwama town for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday against the massacre of seven civilians by government forces on Saturday last at Sirnoo village of the district.

Witnesses said that all the shops and other business establishments are shut in the town while public and private transport remained off the roads. The government degree college also remained shut.

Meanwhile, life returned to normal in other Parts of the district including Tral, Awantipora and Pampore townships of the district.

Seven civilians were massacred by government forces on Saturday after firing indiscrimnately at them. Several other were ijured in the forces action.

The killings have invited sharp reaction from international organisations including Amnesty and Organisation of Islamic Countries.

The killings were also condemned by the prime minister, foreign minister and finance minister of Pakistan.
