Army soldier turned militant one among the slain militants

Srinagar: One among three militants killed in South Kashmir’s Sirno village of Pulwama district is Zahoor Ahmed Thokar who had deserted Indian Army last year and joined militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen.

Zahoor Thokar, who was also known as ‘Major Thokar’ of Sirnoo village in Pulwama was posted at TA battalion at Gantmulla in Baramulla district had deserted his camp during the intervening night of July 5 and 6 along with assault rifle and three magazines.

His elder bother is also working in Territorial Army.

Zahoor was in the category of  A++ militant. He according to police was mostly active in Pulwama and Shopian districts of South Kashmir.

A manhunt was launched to track him, however, despite all odds he survived for over an year.

A police official said that Zahoor was involved in the abduction and killing of army soldier Aurangzeib from Chenab Valley.(cns)
