Bajrang Dal activists attempt to assault PDP MLC, over dozen arrested in Jammu

Jammu: Over a dozen Bajrang Dal activists on Friday were detained when they attempted to assault Peoples Democratic Party Member of Legislative Council Firdous Tak here.

Mr Tak had come to Press Club of Jammu to address the media over some political developments and situation erupting in the state particulary in Kishtwar district, the hometown of the MLC.

As soon as Mr Tak arrived the Press Club, a group of Bajrangis amid slogans, had a minor scuffle with him and they allegedly also tried to assault him in full public view.

Meanwhile, police personnel deployed on the spot and his personal security men intervened and rescued the MLC.

The MLC had a narrow escape while police also took over a dozen Bajrang Dal activists into custody.

The Bajrang Dal activists were holding protest against the recent MLC’s controversial comments in Kishtwar town the video of which also went viral on social media.

On killings of Parihar brothers including senior BJP leader Anil Parihar in Kishtwar, who were shot dead last month, the MLC sought to know why the names of accused was not made public.

He however, also questioned if the accused have not been identified then who misled the Governor Satya Pal Malik.

“We have detained over a dozen Bajrang Dal activists into custody while further course of action is being taken,” a police officer said.
