J&K Raj Bhavan’s fax machine still not working; needs a new one urgently: Omar

Srinagar: Taking a jibe over Raj Bhavan’s fax machine ‘still not working’, National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah said that the Governor’s office needs a new machine urgently.

“I’m trying to fax a letter to @jandkgovernor but the fax machine still isn’t working,” Mr Abdullah, who is the former chief minister of the state, wrote on twitter.

He said the operator who answered the phone says the fax operator is on holiday as it’s a Sunday. “Will attempt again tomorrow in the mean time am forced to put the letter out through social media,” he said.

J&K Raj Bhavan needs a new fax machine urgently, he wrote.

“My letter to @jandkgovernor on behalf of @JKNC_ placing on record our concern about reports of changes being proposed to the J&K permanent residents certificate rules,” he added.

Raj Bhavan’s fax machine became butt of a joke after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti last month said that she tried to send a letter to the Governor by fax, but it didn’t go through. The letter by the PDP president was to stake claim to form government with the help of NC and Congress.

Later, Ms Mehbooba posted the letter on twitter. However, minutes after the PDP president posted the letter on twitter, Governor Satya Pal Malik dissolved the Assembly. Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone had also claimed stake on government formation.

Soon after, Omar and Mehbooba took a dig at Raj Bhavan over non-functioning of the fax machine and shared memes and GIFs on twitter. Many jokes about the broken fax machine went viral on social media
