South Kashmir: Six civilians injured in clashes with govt forces near encounter site in Shopian

Srinagar: At least six civilians have been injured during clashes with government forces near gunfight site in Nadigam village of Shopian district in southern Kashmir.

Reports said that clashes erupted near the gunfight site Tuesday morning after the local youth hit streets and pelted government forces with rocks and stones in a bid to help the trapped militants escape.

They said that the government forces fired tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the protesting youth. However, the youths assembled again and again and clashed with the forces.

Sources said that six youth have suffered injuries so far in the clashes.

The clashes were going on when this report was being filed.

Meanwhile, the government authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Shopian and Pulwama districts.

“The internet has been suspended as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order,” a senior official told The Kashmir Press.
